Tamir M. Segal, D.M.D., board certified by the American Board of Periodontology since 1999, recently opened his own periodontal practice at the Weston Medical/Professional Campus in Weston, FL. Focusing on oral diagnosis, oral diagnosis and implantology, the new office has the latest in technology for treating periodontal disease, tissue regeneration techniques, and placement of dental implants. Both adults and children are welcome.
Dr. Segal additionally works as a part time faculty member at the Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine where he serves as a clinical professor and lectures on the correlation between periodontal disease and other systemic diseases such as diabetes and respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. These correlations, as well as Aggressive and Chronic periodontitis, surgical and non-surgical periodontal therapy, and dental implants are the topics of discussion Dr. Segal leads at dental societies, universities, hospitals and study clubs. Prior to moving to Weston, Dr. Segal served as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Periodontology at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts from 2000 - 2003. He was also an associate in a prestigious periodontal practice in Boston from 1999 - 2003 and Swampscott, MA in 2001 and 2002. Dr. Segal received his dental education in Boston, earning a Doctor of Medical Dentistry and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Periodontology and Oral Biology at the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey, where he was in the Phi Zeta Kappa Honors Society and on the Dean's List.
Dr. Segal has conducted clinical research on the Microbiology and Immunology of early onset periodontitis as well as biological research in Immunology on the association between reduced immune system and systemic diseases. He has lectured at Tufts University, New York University, The Hebrew University in Israel, and the Yankee Dental Congress, among others. He is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, American Academy of Osseointegration, American Dental Association, Massachusetts Dental Society, Massachusetts Periodontal Society and the Alpha-Omega Dental Fraternity. Fluent in Hebrew in addition to English, Dr. Segal is originally from Tel Aviv, Israel, where he spent 3½ years in the Israeli army before moving to the United States to pursue his undergraduate and graduate education. In his free time Dr. Segal enjoys art and music and is an excellent tennis player. He was a tennis coach during his time in New Jersey, was named MVP in 1991 on the Fairleigh Dickinson University tennis team, and was a silver medalist at the 1983 Maccabee Games in Memphis.
